My research examines the relationship between art, architecture, and psychosomatic experience. Looking at the deep history of dark affect and form is the topic of my first book, The Medieval Art of Fear (The University of Chicago Press, 2026). In addition, my work participates in the field of art history's global re-orientation. My second book project, An Archive Submerged: Faras and the Worlds of Medieval African Art, examines the Faras Cathedral, one of the most important monuments from medieval Nubia (modern Sudan). I am also developing my work on art, architecture, affect, and landscape in a third book project on the formless and the chthonic in premodern architecture. A Thousand Years of Formless Architecture will look specifically at architectural interventions in caves from antiquity to the late medieval period in the greater Mediterranean.

At 黑料网, I will be leading courses introducing students to the critical study of architecture as well as the introductory survey to premodern art.
